Is a cheap policy the way to go?

Exotic pet insurance

In the US and Canada, exotic pet insurance refers to coverage for pets other than dogs and cats. In the UK, many insurers also offer coverage for rabbits.

As of 2011, VPI is the only insurance company in the US to offer coverage for exotic pets.

This would include, but may not be limited to:

- birds

- lizards

- snakes

- ferrets

- turtles

- guinea pigs

Coverage for exotics is similar to coverage for dogs and cats. Deductibles, co-pays, limits, etc, apply per the policy terms.

Finding a vet that can treat an exotic pet may be more difficult than finding insurance to cover the costs. So before you even go off and buy one, make sure there is a Vet in the area that can treat it.

Now that you have read this article, you now know what it will mean to care for such a creature, and that you must have exotic pet insurance, a local vet who can do the check ups to make sure your pet is going fine. If you are thinking of getting an exotic, you had better be prepared to do some foot work first, to make sure you have everything prepared just in case something were to happen.
